After breaking up . . .

You and I

You and I
We speak in ideals,
In lofty terms of how things ought to be.
That is why
We could never work
But I miss someone bringing out that part of me.

For we missed each other’s faults
And ignored each other’s wrongs,
We looked too much at what was right
And listened to each other’s lies too long.

Though most cover there faults only a little time
We mastered the art of disguise
So that reality never disturbed our lake
As we lay and painted our blue skies.

You and I
We spoke in ideals,
In lofty terms of how things should have been
That is why
We never worked
But sometimes I miss forgetting my sin.
